Sanjay R. Patel MD, MS is the principal investigator of the ABC study. Dr. Patel received his undergraduate degree from Princeton University and his medical degree from Harvard Medical School. He completed his clinical training in internal medicine at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and in pulmonary, critical care and sleep medicine at Harvard. He has clinical privileges at both Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and is on the faculty at Harvard Medical School.
Jill Gormley is a Research Assistant for the ABC study, and is a recruiter for patients at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Partners Healthcare. Jill received her Bachelors at Keene State College with a degree in Biology.

Ryan McChesney is a Research Assistant for the ABC study and is a recruiter for patients at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Partners Healthcare. Ryan received her Bachelors degree at Williams College with a dual degree in Psychology and Neuroscience.
Ashley Seiger | Study Coordinator
Ashley Seiger is the Study Coordinator for the ABC study, and is a recruiter for patients at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Partners Healthcare. Ashley received her Bachelors degree from Sacred Heart University and recently completed a Pre-Med, Post-baccalaureate program, at Boston University.
Ali Tavakkolizadeh, MD | Bariatric Surgeon

Ali Tavakkolizadeh, MD, specializes in minimally invasive and weight loss surgery and is experienced in a variety of bariatric procedures, including laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery, laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy, as well as Lap-Band placements. Dr. Tavakkolizadeh received his medical degree from The London Hospital of Medical College in England. He completed his training at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and undertook further training in bariatric and laparoscopic surgery as the Harvard Advanced Minimally Invasive fellow. Dr. Tavakkolizadeh is an Assistant Professor in Surgery at Harvard Medical school. He currently sees patients at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Faulkner Hospital.
Edward Hatchigian, MD, MS | Bariatric Medical Director

Edward Hatchigian, MD, MS, specializes in bariatric medicine and has been the medical director of the Bariatric Surgery Program since its inception in 1999. He received his medical degree from Boston University School of medicine and completed his internship and residency in medicine at Beth Israel Deaconness Medical Center. He received his medical training at Harvard Medical School of Medicine and holds a degree in public and environmental health from Tufts University. As the Bariatric medical director, Dr. Hatchigian works collaboratively with the bariatric surgeons in the selection and care of weight loss sugery patients.
